A spoiled new year or a tangerine allergy
A little more than a month is left before the onset of the main family holiday of Russians – the New Year. And this means that very soon we will get Christmas decorations, colorful garlands, shiny tinsel from our boxes, we will run around the shops in search of gifts, and, of course, we will carefully think over the New Year’s menu, not forgetting such traditional components of the New Year’s table as salad “Olivier”, champagne, tangerines. But, unfortunately, many people cannot enjoy the holiday to their fullest, allowing themselves to eat a couple of fragrant tangerines, because immediately after that they will develop an allergy that can ruin the whole celebration.
But first, a little background on this New Year’s fruit. For several millennia, India has been considered the homeland of tangerines, and today huge tangerine plantations are located in Greece, Brazil, Morocco, Spain, from where they are supplied to us, to Russia.
We love tangerines not only for their smell and taste, but also for their great health benefits. In addition to the fact that they contain a large amount of useful substances (various vitamins, mineral salts, essential oil, ascorbic acid, etc.), tangerines significantly improve digestion, strengthen immunity, participate in the regulation of blood pressure and much, much more. Therefore, it is doubly offensive when this wonderful fruit causes severe allergic reactions, and you have to refuse it.
What are the causes of citrus allergies? The main reason is considered to be an overabundance in their consumption. The fragrant and tasty fruit beckons to eat itself again and again, therefore, rarely does anyone think about an “overdose” of vitamin C, which causes an allergic reaction due to an excess of the norm of histamine in the body.
Another reason may be problems with the liver, kidneys, pancreas, etc. In this case, the fruit clearly indicates the true problem, so it is necessary to see a doctor as soon as possible to clarify the situation.
In addition, tangerine allergies can also be caused by the chemicals that fruit is typically treated with during cultivation and transportation.
Heredity also plays an important role. Suppose one of the parents has a severe food allergy (including citrus allergy). In this case, the likelihood of having this disease in a child increases several times.
Hypersensitivity of the immune system can also cause allergenic reactions. In other words, a true food allergy.
There are also cases of allergy when a person invents it for himself. For example, after a case of allergy to tangerines, a person can convince himself and others for the rest of his life that he has a strong allergy to citrus fruits.
As a rule, an allergy to tangerines is accompanied by the following symptoms: severe itching, rash on the body and face, the presence of red spots, abdominal pain, swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth, indigestion.
So, so that the New Year is not spoiled by an allergy to the traditional New Year’s fruit, you need to take care of your health in advance. Monitor your diet, as well as the nutrition of your children (you should not feed children under one and a half years of age with citrus). It is undesirable for pregnant women to eat tangerines, because otherwise the child will be born already prone to allergic reactions. It is very important to support your body in the presence of allergy to citrus (and with any food allergy) by taking medications (Suprastin, Polysorb MP, Fenistal in drops, etc.). Well, if you know that you are allergic to citrus fruits, on New Year’s holidays, and in general, you should try to stop eating tangerines. Fortunately, fruit suppliers delight us with a choice, so an apple or, for example, a pineapple can also decorate the New Year’s table. After all, the main thing is to have an excellent New Year mood and a festive atmosphere, which is what we wish you. Happy New Year to you!
